SupplyFrame buys Findchips.com

SupplyFrame, Inc. has acquired FindChips.com (www.findchips.com).  The site brings new capabilities to SupplyFrame Media’s online advertising products.  FindChips.com has been used by component buyers for over 12 years for performing component inventory search on the web.

A scientist at NASA originally created FindChips.com for personal use. Since then, claims  SupplyFrame, over 100,000 people each month use the service to locate available stock of electronic components. However, Google’s AdPlanner tool suggests that the figure for unique users is closer to 52,000 per month – still a good figure for a niche site but way below the 1 million unique visitors per month now achieved by leading distributors such as Digi-Key.

FindChips.com displays inventory levels and pricing information for leading component distributors across the industry. SupplyFrame Media is currently accepting applications from distributors worldwide to be included in the inventory search results at FindChips.com.

Fuller back at EE Times

Brian Fuller has returned to EE Times. His intriguing job title is “Products Strategist” and Brian, who’s working for Patrick Mannion, sent Publitek the  most useful email we’ve ever received from EE Times. If you didn’t get a copy direct, here’s the story.

“We’re in the process of making our EE Times Products coverage and packaging more readable, accessible and useful to our engineering readers, a quarter-million of whom spend quality time at EETimes.com every week. Some of this transformation is behind the scenes; some of it involves your help.

How can you help? Two ways, short-term and medium-term:
1. Short-term: We need your help in building accurate, reliable and timely lists of various products, which are really popular with readers and can drive traffic to your product pages. Here are links to Google forms for three product types we need your help on. If your company makes MCUs, low-dropout regulators, and/or LED drivers, please fill out the appropriate forms and hit submit. It will take just a few minutes of your time.
a. Microcontrollers: https://spreadsheets.google.com/viewform?hl=en&formkey=dExJd3c3dU03RjZqblgzWEJBa3NXbmc6MQ#gid=0
b. Low-dropout regulators: https://spreadsheets1.google.com/viewform?hl=en&formkey=dFN1ZnZfX0xtU0owN2JEM2pvQ25RWHc6MQ#gid=0
c. LED drivers: https://spreadsheets2.google.com/viewform?hl=en&formkey=dGdhWVd2ZF9rRV9xRFlpZ3lxVGtua2c6MQ#gid=0

2. Medium-term: You have some number of “Tier one” or “A-level” product announcements each year. I want to hear about them ahead of time to prepare for more complete coverage that may include video, audio and other elements. You can reach me by email (brian.fuller@ubm.com) or by phone (415.947.6244) or on Skype (brian.fuller9). I can’t guarantee we can handle all requests, but we’ll do our best.

How to contact us
Lastly, the most common question I get is “Who can cover my story?” Here’s an updated list (with emails embedded), organized by newsletter or online site but representing our beats. Since I oversee products coverage, please consider me an essential contact point if you have trouble getting a response from someone:

EE Times Products Brian Fuller

Elektra award deadlines – Electronics Weekly (UK)

I wrote a quick update last week to say that Electronics Weekly’s UK Elektra Award deadlines were looming and all awards should be in by this Friday.

Thankfully I didn’t click publish as the award deadline has been shifted by 3 weeks, to the 23rd July.

Whilst award deadlines are a little like takeover bids, you should never accept the first offer, the change in date has been kept very quiet this year.

PMN has had a quick mail from Matthias Laasch, EL-info’s editor. It seems the title is launching special-feature print issues that are dedicated to particular industry segments. This is the first time that the publication has done this.

An “Electromechanics and Electronics Packaging” special appeared in April and will be followed by “Opto-Electronics and LED Technology” in June.

A “Smart Engineering” special is planned for just before Electronica.
